Briana Lotan

I fell in love with music the moment I figured out how to sing along to everything and anything from Disney to funk hits. It all started with performing in church concerts and continued to grow until I was introduced to the stage my freshman year of high school. It was love at first sight once I got my first taste of musical theater. Ever since then I have been involved in every aspect of music and theater that I could get my hands on. I started taking vocal lessons at the age of 11 and in my free time began to teach myself how to play the piano. I loved creating and learning all different types of music. I decided early on in high school that I could never see myself doing anything else so I decided to go to school for music.
I attended Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina for a Bachelors of Art in Music with a concentration in Musical Theater. I immersed myself with performing in all the productions, concerts, and show cases. I loved singing and how it made me feel like the whole world just stopped for a second to live inside the piece with you. My favorite roles in college were Ilse from Spring Awakening, Snoopy from You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, and Van’s Sister from Dog Sees God. While exploring performing, I discovered a new love for directing, vocal coaching, and teaching voice and piano. I was so interested in teaching that my professor and I created an all new community program to help students have a more hands on approach. After college I attended Williamstown Theater Festival as an Apprentice and was able to further my education by working and performing with professional from Broadway. As an apprentice I performed, attended master classes, worked behind the scenes, and networked with professions from the field.
I started my teaching journey four years ago and have loved watching my students grow and have their “light bulb” moments. I love to incorporate the theatrical studies into my lessons while having a high energy, positive, and bubbly teaching space. One of my proudest teaching moments is helping two of my students achieve their musical goals of getting in to their college choice music program. Also, watching my vocal students put on a very successful production of The Little Mermaid. Teaching is one of my biggest inspirations to keep exploring and growing within the music field. Music is wonderful to get lost in and my passion is helping students discover the never ending possibilities it holds.
