Kyle Walker
Violin/Viola

Hello, I’m Kyle Walker.
Music is truly my life’s passion! I couldn’t imagine my life without music! I started playing violin when I was 9 years old. I still remember when I got my first rental violin. I couldn’t wait to get it home to try playing something! I continued to study violin all the way through high school. During high school I had the honor of being my high school orchestra’s Concertmaster. After high school I knew that music had to be my college major. I attended Oakland University to continue my music studies. During college I played in the Pontiac-Oakland Symphony, Oakland University Chamber Orchestra, and the Oakland University String Ensemble. I graduated with my B.A. in Music in 2010.
After, college I knew I had to continue my violin studies. I had the privilege of studying violin with Detroit Symphony Orchestra musicians! I studied with the Assistant Concertmaster of the Detroit Symphony, Hai-Xin Wu for about a year. I learned many valuable techniques and methods. I also studied with the Associate Concertmaster of the Detroit Symphony, Kim Kennedy for one summer. She also taught me many invaluable techniques. I learned that a musician has to truly understand music beyond just the notes on the page. Music can truly touch people! I continued my studies further with another Detroit Symphony Orchestra violinist, Greg Staples. He also helped me to discover new sounds and techniques I never knew before on the violin. I use everything that these world-renowned musicians taught me to help myself be a better musician and teacher.
My performance experience has been mainly symphony orchestra playing. I have always loved performing in an orchestra. There is something very special about being able to create such beautiful music with 80 other people! All of the different instruments coming together to create one great sound. I have played in many of the local orchestras including the Macomb Symphony Orchestra, Lake St. Clair Symphony, Pontiac-Oakland Symphony, and Oakland Symphony Orchestra.
In addition to orchestra experience I also have teaching experience. During college, I started teaching a few students at their house. Then, after college I was hired by Evola Music Center. I taught violin lessons there for over 4 years. I learned new and more effective ways of teaching through my time there. I really enjoy being able to help students reach their full potential and experience music through violin!
I look forward to sharing my love and passion for violin with students here at Expressions Music Academy!
