ABOUT OUR GUITAR PROGRAM (AGES 6+)
Expressions Music Academy provides the Metro DC and Metro Detroit areas with quality acoustic guitar, electric guitar, ukulele, and bass guitar lessons for all ages and skill levels. We offer weekly private guitar lessons to students starting at age 6 and have 30, 45, and 60-minute lessons available. Lessons are available to beginners as well as self-taught or experienced students in all different styles such as rock, pop, folk, classical, r&b, jazz, and more. Whatever your goals are, our professional music teachers are here to help you and customize a lesson plan for you.
Guitar lessons are conveniently available near you in one of our eight locations in Annandale, Ashburn, Burke, Herndon, Vienna, Novi, West Bloomfield, Plymouth-Canton, Rochester Hills and Troy.
GUITAR Lessons FOR BEGINNERS
Our beginner guitar students of all ages will learn how to read standard and tab notation, play melodies, chords, and improvise. All students are highly encouraged to bring recordings of their favorite songs, band, or players to learn their favorite songs. Method books will likely be supplemented to ensure a well-rounded musical development.
GUITAR FOR EXPERIENCED STUDENTS
At Expressions Music Academy, we teach guitar lessons for intermediate to advanced students with a focus on expanding technique, repertoire, theory, and learning to transcribe. Intermediate students are typically graduated out of using method books and starting to learn more complex pieces of music. Our music teachers work with students to develop a customized lesson plan that works for them.
Whether students have been self-taught, have experience from another instructor or school, or gained all their experience at Expressions, we know how to help them reach the next goal. Intermediate or advanced students learn how to play more challenging music and fine-tune and polish their playing by mastering more advanced techniques and theoretical applications. Whether students want to learn a new style, improve on their fingerpicking or soloing, get good enough to join a band, or just keep playing for fun, we have the skills and experience to get them there.
GUITAR FOR ADULTS
We have many adult students from all different backgrounds who take guitar lessons with us. Many are self-taught and looking for help to get them to the next level, and many others have had lessons on and off and looking to brush up on some skills. Regardless of your background and goals, our guitar instructors absolutely love working with adults, and they know how to make lessons comfortable and rewarding. UKULELE AND BASS GUITAR LESSONS
We have many professional music teachers that also teach such instruments as Ukulele, Bass, Mandolin, Banjo, and other hard-to-find lessons for these unique instruments. Be sure to ask us about our availability if you are interested in one or more of these instruments.

We are able to attract the best instructors in the area because they want to teach here. Every one of our instructors has been screened, auditioned, interviewed, selected, and trained to teach our students with the utmost patience and care. It takes a special type of person with a special type of personality to make a great teacher, and we have only those types. All our instructors either hold or are pursuing music degrees in music and all have had prior experience teaching music. FLEXIBLE SCHEDULING AND MAKEUP OPTIONS 7 DAYS A WEEK
We have many weekday afternoon and evenings and Saturday and Sunday morning and afternoon lesson times, and we're open all year round, including the summer. If you need to cancel your lesson or change your lesson time, no problem! Our busy families love our convenient unlimited makeup lesson and schedule change policy. And if you’re too busy or unable to come in for a make-up lesson, you can even request that your teacher create you a custom video make-up lesson instead! There are plenty of flexible options for all.
FREE OPTIONAL RECITALS TWO TIMES PER YEAR
Students want to feel motivated to practice and parents want to see progress, and our optional recitals accomplish both these objectives. We offer a variety of recital options and themes in our very own concert hall twice each year. We pride ourselves on our well-organized, warm, supportive performance events which never last longer than an hour... and they’re entirely free for all involved!
LEVEL UP MUSIC ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM
Our students have been enthusiastically climbing from levels 1 through 10, earning certificates, wristbands, stickers, and trophies since we launched this signature program in 2012. Think about the martial arts Black Belt program… but for music lessons! This structured, nationally recognized, and motivating program is completely free (and optional) for Expressions students of all ages, and our students have never been more motivated to master their instrument!
MONTH TO MONTH LESSON STRUCTURE
No long-term quarterly or annual commitments. Students are only committed to a month at time.
